City

The second section is showing what a typical Roman city looked like.
The key on the left shows all the different buildings.
The city flaps open. On the right is a picture of what the forum might have looked like.
In the middle there is a nice picture of Romans building an aqueduct and road.
The middle picture flaps up to show a photo of an Aqueduct. This is what is still left of it after almost 2000 years (the modern city is seen on the right).
The aqueduct photo flaps to the left to show how they made their roads.
And that flaps to the right to show a photo of what is left of one of the Roman Roads in modern time.

Map

The first section of my scroll.
This map shows the Roman Empire at it's greatest in AD 100.
I have included the Legend of the start of Rome and the Greek word "Italos".
The picture of Romulus and Remus with the she-wolf.
"Italos" means "bull-calf".
The details of the story of Romulus and Remus.
How "Italy" got it's name. "Land of calves".

Ancient Rome Scroll

I have started a unit study on Ancient Rome. Mom read about "lap books" and she came up with the good idea to do a "lap scroll" instead of a book because the Romans used scrolls.
I am very excited about this unit study. We have so many books out the library (at least 20), an Audio Book, a video and a puzzle.

Home made Paper

Julia lent us her equipment to make Home Made Paper. We had a lot of fun learning how to do this.

Flowers "drinking"

Julia heard that we were experimenting with plants "drinking" coloured water, so she gave us a bunch of flowers to try it with.
Amazing to see where the water travels.
And after more time it just gets darker.
Different colours look nice.
This one got so very dark.
