The Mayflower Secret
by Dave and Neta Jackson
Elizabeth was sailing on the Mayflower with her parents. One night the wife of Governor William Bradford was standing up on the deck and Elizabeth saw her. She was going to call out to her or get someone else but she didn’t and went back to her bed. In the morning the lady had disappeared. Nobody knew what had happened to her. They thought she must have fallen overboard.
When they arrived at Cape Cod everyone was settling in. All the time Elizabeth felt guilty about the death of Mrs Bradford. She thought that if she had called someone on the night she saw her, Mrs Bradford would not have fallen overboard. In the end she decides to go and tell Governor Bradford about it. He tells her that even if she had tried, she would not have been able to get Mrs Bradford away from the side because she was lonely and sad and also quite stubborn. So Elizabeth feels a lot better about it.
